A Zoom meeting has different four possible roles:

  • Host is the user who schedules the meeting and has full permissions to manage the meeting. A host can assign another participant to be the meeting host so that they can focus on presenting.
  • Co-Host is a role assigned by the host. A co-host has most of the abilities that a host has except that they cannot start a meeting. It is highly recommended that you assign a co-host who can help moderate your chat so that you can focus on presenting.
  • Alternate Host is a role assigned by the host. An alternate host has the same abilities as a co-host but they can also start the meeting.
  • Participant is an attendee who can only do what a host or co-host permits them to do in a meeting.
